Satan-powered developer Activision has sent out a rather lean press release detailing a new game in the X-Men universe. The game, X-Men: Destiny, seems like it’ll adopt something of a choose your own adventure style of gameplay, and will likely have all the trimmings of such experiences. Which is my way of saying, I think there’ll be some kind of morality system. This is an assumption based on the statement that we “have the freedom to choose” our path.
With that said, nothing specific as to the gameplay or platforms have been released, but it’s Activision, so we can assume it’s a cross-platform release. Might not make it to the Wii, though, as what does these days?
Quoting from the press release: “The all-new original video game casts players as new mutant recruits in a rich, branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny.”
All I know is that I’m ready for an awesome, single-player X-Men game. Possibly one where I can hang out with Gambit (as long as he’s voiced by Chris Potter, whose Cajun accent is the least offensive). He could tell me about the difficulties of being in love with someone you can’t touch, and I could tell him about the difficulties of reading The Road for fun. We’d probably fight some dudes somewhere, and bond. Maybe agree that life in the gray is better than being explicitly good or bad.
But I digress.
Basically, we have a trailer with plenty of promise for now. We’ll see how things shape up.
Please, please, please don’t let it be an MMO attempting to combat SOE’s DC Universe Online. Please.
